It wasn't used in the Korean War because it wasn't designed to carry sufficient armament for use in the ground interdiction role. © 2008 by Steve Ginter Just missing the war with Japan, the aircraft was the predominate shipboard fighter aboard carriers during the 1946-1950 time period. Meyer has a daughter, Sandra Louise, and two sons, John Fyfield and Peter Corwin. He also served as a consultant to the European research organization AGAARD (a NATO Committee for Research and Development) and NASA. After all, it does hold the world's speed record for a piston engined aircraft. However, pilots of Grumman's nimble single-engine Bearcat would swear the F8F was. EDITOR'S NOTE: The F7F Tigercat was arguably the most exciting piston-powered military aircraft ever built (see Naval Fighters #75).
